Keeping your cat at their ideal weight range and size with a safe diet regimen.
Feline obesity affects a large percentage of pets in our area and is one of the most common health issues we see at the clinic. Our veterinary team can discuss diet and lifestyle changes that may help your feline reach their healthy weight.
Your veterinarian will start by figuring out your cat’s Body Condition Score. This is determined by a physical and visual exam of your pet’s body, including whether their ribs are visible or easily felt. The score is between 1 and 9, with 1 being the most underweight and 9 being the most overweight score.
Visiting your veterinarian is the first step in helping your cat lose the extra weight. Making sure that you and any other family members in the household are on board with the diet and exercise requirements are key to a successful weight loss program.
Our veterinary team can offer diet suggestions, including amounts and frequency, so that you can follow a proper weight loss feeding schedule for your feline.
