Although we may remember to visit the dentist regularly, our pets rely on us to keep their dental health in check. Dental health is an extremely important part of your pet’s overall health. You may notice that your pet’s appetite has changed, their gums may look red or swollen, or they may have bad breath. These are all signs that your pet may have dental issues. Regular check-ups with your veterinarian can help to prevent these issues.

What types of canine dental care services are offered at your clinic?

The best place to start is to schedule a dental exam with one of our veterinarians. This will give us a better picture of your pet’s dental health. After the visit, we can recommend the best possible dental care for your pet. This may include a professional dental cleaning under general anesthetic. This includes scaling and polishing the teeth, dental x-rays and in some cases, extractions may be necessary. We are also happy to give you tips on how to brush your dog’s teeth and to recommend special dental diets along with other products we have available.

How often should I brush my dog’s teeth?

It is important to make this a positive experience for your pup. Start brushing their teeth at an early age if possible. Flavoured toothpaste is available which can make brushing a much more pleasant experience. We recommend brushing once daily if at all possible.

Why is oral and dental health important?

A healthy mouth = a healthy dog. Left untreated, dental issues can affect your pet’s health in many ways including tooth loss and infection. A painful and unhealthy mouth can be very uncomfortable and prevent your pet from doing the things they love, including playing with toys and chewing their favourite treats.
