When to Rush Your Pet to the Vet!

It can be hard to know if an animal should be seen by a veterinarian in a day or two or be rushed to the clinic immediately. Any illness or accident can be extremely upsetting for a pet owner. The following is a list of examples of when your pet should be assessed by a veterinarian right away!

• Male cat straining to urinate with no production
• Pet cannot walk- sudden onset
• Cat screaming and unable to use back legs
• Hit by a car (blunt force trauma)
• Vomiting puppy-
• New bite wound/wounds
• Respiratory distress
• Open mouth breathing feline
• Active seizure/cluster seizures
• Collapsing episode
• Vomiting blood
• Known/possible toxin ingestion
• Unconscious/ non-responsive
• Facial swelling/ allergic reaction
• Quilled dog
• Uncontrolled bleeding
• Heatstroke
• Difficulty giving birth
• Large breed dog painful and vomiting up foam- sudden onset

If you think your pet is showing any of the above signs, please call your Veterinarian before rushing in, so they can advise you of any action to take at home and be appropriately prepared for your pets’ arrival. Additionally, if you feel your pet is exhibiting a concerning symptom not listed here – Call the vet to ask if you should bring your pet in!
